How to read only the bits you're interested in
It has finally occurred to me that while I tend to post anything here that interests me, it’s likely that not everyone who reads these posts is equally interested in the whole range*: for instance, not everyone who reads my security-related posts (which were, after all, my main source of income for many years) will care about my attempts at verse. So I’ve started a couple of more specialized newsletters — for the moment, one for music-related stuff and one for verse. I think that subscribers to Selective Symmetry will be added to the new publications, which seems a bit presumptuous, but I won’t take offence if you unsubscribe immediately (or indeed, at any time!)
The two new sections, as Substack calls them — insert your own joke about having me sectioned here — are Wheal Alice Music and Selective Symmetry Verse. The music section kicks off tomorrow with my instrumental piece “Moonflow”. The verse section will kick off a little earlier with a piece called Senryū: it’s an attempt at a Japanese verse form consisting of three lines, similar to a haiku, and an awful lot of information that probably no one but me will care about.
But don’t worry, they will both eventually appear here, too. I know you’ll look forward to that. 😉
*I read an article today that claimed that the phrase "Jack of all trades, master of none" is in fact incomplete, and should be "Jack of all trades, master of none...but oftentimes better than a master of one." I suspect that the second clause may be a recent addition, but I shall take comfort from it and continue to write whatever appeals to me for as long as I’m able, even if a time comes when no one reads it!
